Someone's Having a Birthday!

Tomorrow is Bo's first birthday, and we are so excited! When the girls turned one, we flew home to Texas and had a big shin-dig with our whole family. Some family members met them for the first time at their party, so it was something we planned and looked forward to. This year, it's not possible to go home, and we just saw everyone at Christmas, so we are keeping it simple by doing cake and presents with our immediate family. It has been really weird to NOT plan a big party, so the girls and I decided to make a birthday balloon wreath to have at least a little decoration.

We were out running errands while Brooke was in school, so we picked up the wreath supplies and got started this afternoon. The wreath is very simple to make, you just cover a straw wreath with balloons. The girls assigned themselves the job of sorting the balloons by color (I'm sure you can guess which little lady decided this was necessary). We used 300 balloons, so this kept them occupied for quite a while!
Bo wasn't interested in helping, but he was happy to carry around a package of balloons. He was not so happy when Brooke took it away to be sorted.
1 hour and 300 balloons later, we have a cute wreath to hang on our front door. Bethany has requested that it stay there until her birthday (which is only a week away!) and Brooke said it will need to come back out in July for her birthday, too.
I originally found the wreath idea at this website . I increased the number of balloons so it would be a bit fuller, and it was super-easy to make. My thumbs are throbbing from pushing the floral pins in, but it was worth it!

Once the kids were in bed, Rob and I assembled and wrapped presents for our little guy. The girls are so excited for Bo to wake up and see his new car. I told them we have to wait until after dinner to let him open gifts, and they were begging us to give him his car and gas pump in the morning...I'm pretty sure they want to play with it!
