Master Bedroom

This is what you see when you enter our bedroom from the hallway. I love walking towards our room and seeing all of the sunshine through the windows. Have you figured out yet that I really need sunshine? Seriously, it is like water, food and air to me. Without it, I am a sad, grumpy girl!
The curtains in this room used to be in our dining room (and were in a living room before that). I refuse to buy all new curtains every time we move, so I was thrilled when these panels fit in this room. Our old master bedroom was painted a light green, but I really like the paint color in here. It is a nice neutral, but doesn't totally disappear...might need to figure out what color it is in case I want to use it in the future!
What you don't see, is the extra sitting room that just about doubles our space! This was originally one large room, but a previous owner had a growing family, and decided to add a wall to make a space for a nursery. The current owners weren't thrilled with that layout, so they had a walkway cut out of the wall, added a gas fireplace and bookcases, and transformed it into a sitting room.
After living here for a few weeks now, I completely understand why they did this. The master bathroom is TINY, so we have used this space as an extra dressing area. Rob's long dresser fit in the walk-in closet at our old house, but that arrangement doesn't work here, so we stuck it under the window.
We put some of his military awards on the wall, and put all of our books in the bookcases. We are still missing a few boxes of books, so I haven't started organizing any of them yet. We also put the girls' boardgames at the top of the bookcases. I didn't want them down in the basement with the toys, where Bo could lose parts or choke on tiny pieces, so this as a good place to store them.
Directly across from his dresser is my vanity. My parents found this at a garage sale when I was in middle school, and they refinished it for me. My sister used it for a few years after I moved out, and when she got new furniture I brought it home for the girls. There is no room for it in their room, and with our TINY bathroom, I really needed a place to put my makeup, hair supplies, etc. so my mom suggested moving it in here. Perfect solution! The door to the left leads out to the hallway, and is directly across from the kids' bathroom, so the girls can easily brush their teeth and then come in here to get their hair fixed in the mornings. I still haven't found the little stool that goes with it, so Rob dug out one of his old camping chairs from boy scouts for me to use-isn't he sweet?
This is the view of our room if you are standing in the sitting room. If you look a little to the right, you will see the doors to the closet and bathroom.
The left door is the closet, the right door is the bathroom.
The closet is really narrow, but plenty deep. We hung military uniforms and out of season clothing on the top rack, because it is really high and you need a step stool to actually get anything down. Not really a practical place to put stuff you will be wearing on a regular basis!
One neat feature of the closet is the laundry chute. The girls love throwing their laundry down, and it is very convenient to have the clothes pile waiting in front of the washing machine.
Can you see the pile of laundry waiting for me? If only it was that easy to get it back up the stairs after it's washed!
And here is the TINY bathroom. We cannot both stand in here at the same time, and there is no room for the toilet paper roll to fit between the sink and toilet, so it's across the room, beside the door (and still within arm's reach!). If we put our scale in here, it would take up the majority of the floor space, so it is downstairs in the basement bathroom.
There is no tub, just a shower stall, which actually works great for us since neither of us really sit down for a bath. The kids bathroom has a tub, so we still have the option, but I can't get past the idea of sitting in dirty water with dead skin cells and stuff floating around. I know some people find it really relaxing, and I know I am weird and have issues. Honestly, I don't mind this room being tiny. Less to clean and more living space-works for me!

Beautiful! I love the wall color too! I wonder why anyone would want plain old white walls??? And I agree with you, once you got your things hung on the walls, they do look a little darker. Nice! Looks like progress is being made....
