Bo is One!

It doesn't seem like our baby should be turning one, this past year has flown by! We woke up to a slushie mess outside, lots of ice and a little snow, and were not surprised to hear that school was cancelled. The sleet was really loud hitting the house, so the kids were all awake by 5:45...why does that always happen on days we could sleep in? When Bethany woke up, she told Bo happy birthday, and then said, "He sure doesn't look like a one-year-old, he still looks like zero".

We came downstairs to presents in the living room, and after clearing out some balloons, Bo jumped right into his car for a ride.
His sisters were ready to push him around, so he took several trips through the living/dining/kitchen before coming back to refuel.
He was so cute holding on to the steering wheel. We put the car downstairs in the basement, and I later found it filled with baby dolls...the little ladies were just as excited about Bo's new toy!
Rob had to go to work, so we told the girls Bo could open the rest of his presents in the evening. We made Bo's birthday cake during his morning nap, and the girls were very eager to help-they love cooking! I decided to make a coca-cola cake, it is one of our favorites, and I figure Bo is too young to care right now anyway. Rob called around 3:00 and said he was headed home early, so the girls sat in the kitchen watching the road for him. They were ready for Bo to open his other gifts!
Rob got home just before the snow started falling-perfect timing! We went to the living room to open presents. Bo wasn't too sure what to do, and needed a little help. Most of the time he was happy to just play with the paper and boxes-typical! His grandparents sent gifts, and we picked up a few small things for him, so it took a while to get everything opened.
Next it was time for cake!
Bethany picked out a 'Cars' themed candle, since he was getting a new car.
Bo couldn't figure out why we were singing to him, he just wanted to eat cake! I had to scoot it out of his reach, because he couldn't keep his little hands off of it.
Bo got the first bite-yummy! I started out feeding him with a fork, but that didn't last long at all.
He much preferred eating cake by the handful.
It was very messy.
He scraped every crumb off his fork.
And picked every piece off his overalls.
Needless to say, he went straight to the bathtub when we were finished! It was different to have such a small celebration for his birthday, but it was actually kind of nice. There was nothing for me to worry about, no activities to plan, no real food to cook, etc...we might go small for birthdays from now on!

He has spent this morning playing with his new toys, with help from the little ladies. His favorite thing is to load all of his new cars into this gift bag, walk it to a different part of the room, unload it and then repeat.
Happy Birthday, Bo William-we love you!

Wow - looks like a fun, busy day! Good thing you didn't have to plan for a big party...looks like your day was full as it was. Looks like Bo liked all of his gifts and so did the little ladies!
