All Things New

We have finally arrived in Virginia, and are starting to get settled into our new home. If you are my facebook friend (or my mom's!) you know our trip was not entirely smooth. Needless to say, after 3 days in the van with 4 kids, and 2 of us having a horrible stomach bug, we all let out a sigh of relief when we pulled into the driveway.
My mom and niece made the trip with us, and the girls had so much fun playing along the way. Thank goodness for DSi's and coloring books! We stopped for pictures at each state line, played in the snow in Tennessee, bounced off the walls in hotels, and made memories that will last forever. After a day of relaxing, we took my mom and niece to the airport for their flight back to Texas (little did we know what a fiasco that would be...). My mom is the best, and I'm not sure we could have made the trip without her!

Today we took Brooke to her new elementary school and registered for classes. She will start tomorrow, and is so excited! Class doesn't start until 8:45, and she was up at 6:00 this morning asking when we could get dressed and go check it out. The office staff was extremely nice, and we were able to tour the school and meet her teacher. They gave us a list of school supplies, so we made a quick trip to the store. One of the stranger items on the list was an empty frosting container. Brooke thought that was the perfect excuse to use her new Easy Bake Oven, so the girls got busy baking while I unloaded our bags.
Bo was feeling left out, so we put him in his booster seat to watch the girls. He was being so silly, growling at me and squealing. Less than a month until his first birthday-where has this year gone? While they were baking, he ate a peach and some crackers. I'm pretty sure that wasn't quite as yummy as their tiny little yellow cakes with chocolate frosting. Their cakes were about the size of a cookie, and took about an hour to make from start to finish...guess that's what happens when you are cooking with a lightbulb!
We used our store-bought frosting to ice the cakes, and then scrubbed the container, labeled it and put it in Brooke's backpack for tomorrow.
I am hoping to have this house completely in order by the weekend, and will share pictures. Rob was here for 3 weeks before we arrived, and was able to set up our furniture and unload most of the boxes. That makes my job so much easier! I spent last weekend moving things around, setting up closets and bedrooms, and organizing the kitchen. The main thing left to work on is the basement, which has been a great play area for the kids. I also need to hang curtains, and at some point we have to tackle the garage. Rob starts back at work tomorrow, and we will be back to our 'normal' routine. We are so glad to all be together again!
