Spring Break

Rob spent most of the last week in Maryland, leaving us on our own for Spring Break. We didn't have anything big planned, just hanging out at the house, so he didn't miss too much! Here is our week in review:

I have been working on my spring cleaning list, and quickly discovered that this was not the week for crossing chores off. Way too much commotion with the girls home, and way too many little messes to even think about doing any deep cleaning! However, I did manage to finish a few small tasks during one of our rain days, while my little man tagged along in the sling. He was so cozy in there, sleeping away while I worked.
We took this crazy dog to the vet. That he is terrified of. In the pouring rain. With three kids. It was as much fun as it sounds.
The sun finally came out, and we spent an entire day playing and running around in the backyard. We have had some unpredictable weather lately, warm one day and cold the next, so we took full advantage of the sunshine! Even Bo got to come out and enjoy the fresh air.
I lost track of how many loads of laundry we did...these girls can go through some clothes! Can you find the sleeping baby hiding on the bed? The girls played 'dress up' and 'baby doll' and 'friends' until they were exhausted. Bethany barely made it to the couch before she passed out! It was about this point that I noticed the girls had traded outfits. Brooke was hot and Bethany was cold, so they just switched clothes...they must have remembered me complaining about all of the laundry.
We had some serious conversations with Bo, mostly consisting of "Oooooohhhhh" and "Aaaahhhh". Brooke is convinced he said 'Mom', and as much as I would love to believe her, I'm thinking that didn't really happpen.
As part of Brooke's pre-surgery prep, we are having her go to the bathroom every 2 hours (trying to keep her bladder empty). She was taking a while to come back after one trip, so I sent Bethany to check on her (I was feeding Bo). When she didn't come back I knew they were up to something, and I was right...they found my eye shadow and decided to try it out on Bethany's face. They thought she looked beautiful...I wasn't so sure.
Baby Bo learned a new trick...he can smile! There is nothing sweeter than his big gummy grin. I had my camera nearby and was able to catch a pic of his second or third little smile, but haven't caught the big 'melt-your-heart-smile' yet.
Brooke had a sick day, waking up with a high fever and feeling miserable. She was burning up and spent most of the day curled up on the couch. We had to miss out on lunch with friends, but, lucky for us, Daddy came home a few hours later!
This little guy started sleeping at night...he can't resist the swaddle blanket. We switched formulas with good results, his face is clearing up, he's spitting up less, and he's sleeping more! Only waking once a night (around 4am) is soooooo nice!
We ended the weekend with some yardwork, trying to get the weeds pulled and the beds cleared before it's too hot to be working outside. It's hard to believe we were just clearing the yard for grass and flower beds this time last year...how time flies!
And while we worked, sweet Bo slept. He was curled up in a nest of blankets in his bouncy seat, tucked away on the porch, safe from this wild West Texas wind.

I love this post - the pictures and the stories.
Both of my kids loved the sling and loved being swaddled.

I think you had a busy spring break! I love little Bo's smile - can't wait for him to smile at me in a couple of weeks. And, I have to agree with you on Bethany's make up job... not so cute!

Hi Melissa,
I just had so much fun catching up on the Bennett family blog! I can't wait to see Bo. He is beautiful. Looks like the girls have grown a LOT.
